In Good Hands: Specialized Rigging Services for Medical Equipment

Company News

published on 06/15/2021

Moving large medical equipment requires a highly skilled team with unique training and experience. Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions provides rigging services in healthcare facilities nationwide for sensitive medical equipment including MRIs, linear accelerators, cath labs, and X-ray machines. Our installers have received extensive training in safe rigging procedures, ensuring that medical equipment is always in good hands.

Our rigging services include:

  • Site inspections
  • Coordination of permits/permissions with hospitals and municipalities
  • Coordination with unions (where applicable)
  • Planning to determine and order necessary resources (crane size, number of forklifts, manpower, etc.)

What Sets Us Apart

Because Simon Hegele specializes in rigging medical equipment, our team has the expertise needed to complete each job with precision and efficiency.

“We’ve worked with other rigging companies on projects, and I see the difference in the timeline of our process,” said Phillip Cerda, Medical Equipment Installer and Team Lead, who has worked at Simon Hegele for 16 years.

“Some rigging companies work with big equipment but don't specialize in medical equipment. So while I see this equipment on a weekly basis, they might see it every six months. That familiarity plays a big part in us getting in and out of the customer's facility safely and quickly — for example, starting in the early morning and finishing in mid-morning, versus some of our competitors who would be there late into the afternoon or evening.”

Other benefits of working with Simon Hegele include:

  • Damage-free rigging and installation: Maneuvering large, heavy equipment through tight hallways or windows, without any damage to the machine or the facility. Our team has navigated a 16,000-pound MRI down a nine-foot-wide basement hallway, without blocking foot traffic or leaving a mark on the floors, and worked with local unions to hoist a machine through a 28th-floor window in downtown Chicago.
  • Hands-on training: Our company has a long partnership with several major medical equipment OEMs. Through our close working relationship and extensive geographic presence around the globe, our employees receive hands-on training directly from OEMs, learning about new rigging processes and lifting equipment.

“We make healthcare work” is a core part of Simon Hegele’s mission — and a message that resonates with Cerda and other team members.

“Helping out and bringing medical equipment to people in need is something that drew me to this field,” said Cerda. “Rigging and installing equipment like cancer treatment machines and MRIs in hospitals, like the children’s hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth, we’re contributing to something that will help people get treatment. And you hope your family never needs it, but you put it in knowing that maybe someone you do know will use it. That’s a big deal to me.”
